Just like in Helldivers 1, you’ll have access to a variety of different weapons and stratagems. Optimize your loadout for the situation you expect to be in. If you’re expecting heavily-armored enemy units, ditch the regular assault rifle and go for laser weapons, explosives, or call in an airstrike with your stratagems.

The best part about the live-service model that they implemented is that you choose the rewards you want to get albeit with some restrictions. They also added new armor types in the game as opposed to the first game, where armor is actually something that you need to optimize now as it was purely cosmetic before. Although you can take on missions alone, it’s better with three other players – this is very much a co-op experience. Everyone gets a set of primary and secondary weapons – which means shotguns, SMGs, assault rifles and pistols – as well as grenades. During combat however you can also call in Strategems, special weapons and items ranging from orbital missile strikes to defensive shields and automated machine gun turrets.

It pays to play with friends! Occasionally, you can find doors that require 2 people to open up. But that's not all, you get a big XP boost when you're in a team and you all extract together.

Even if you’re in a full squad, the smallest bugs pose a real threat, whether it’s killing you themselves or overwhelming you until their bigger, scarier cousins catch up. Thankfully, bugs aren’t immune to specific limb-related injuries either; you can also shoot their legs, tails, claws, and other parts off in a gory spray that can render them alive but harmless — though still extremely gross. This little gameplay and gore nuance, combined with the ammo limitations, mean accuracy is paramount, and every little encounter feels like life or death. All of this makes for an infectiously fun gameplay loop.
